The National Authority for Trade and Consumer Protection aims to protect the financial interests of consumers and to detect price marking and price application irregularities that lead to consumer fraud.
Given the fact that a significant proportion of consumers specifically link their purchases to various promotions, i.e. they consciously seek out offers from commercial outlets to encourage them to buy, particular attention is paid to checking the price indications of products and services offered for sale.
Government agencies, acting as the general consumer protection authority, investigate the conformity of price indications and price promotions, so the consumer protection authority's inspections do not cover pricing, but the communication of pricing and the indication of promotions.
The selling price of the product must be indicated in the following ways:
• on the product, on its packaging or otherwise attached to the product, or
• on a specific price notice placed directly next to the product or on a price list (including a food or drink list) which is easily accessible to the consumer when choosing the product to buy.
For products which are not pre-packaged and which are measured in the presence of the consumer, only the unit price shall be indicated.
In the case of a catering outlet where the customer is served by a waiter, a price list showing the selling prices or unit prices of the range of food and drink offered by the outlet shall also be displayed outside the entrance to the outlet, in the proximity of the entrance.
