Food safety raid in the summer season - NATCP focuses on ice cream shops and beach bars

To protect consumer safety, the National Authority for Trade and Consumer Protection (NATCP) carries out nationwide inspections in cooperation with government agencies. Inspections are mainly carried out in catering establishments, such as ice cream stands, beach bars and outdoor units at summer festivals. During the seasonal inspections the Authority's staff pay particular attention to food safety and hygiene standards and to the provision of adequate information to consumers.

The summer months are an intense period for both consumers and service providers. The pleasant weather brings more people to beaches, ice-cream stands and festivals so demand for services increases significantly. This justifies increased control activities by the NATCP and the government agencies under its professional control with the primary aim of protecting the health and safety of consumers.

The inspections carried out in ice-cream stands and canteens cover production processes, the origin of raw materials and hygiene conditions. In the case of festivals, food safety and hygiene checks are carried out with particular attention being paid to ensuring that consumers are properly informed.

Dr. Lilla Német-Weingartner, President of the NATCP, emphasized that "our goal is not only to identify the shortcomings, but also to promote the operation in compliance with the law so that consumers can use safe, reliable and properly functioning services during the summer season - avoiding any inconveniences. Our mission is to support businesses in their compliance by showing them the right way forward thereby increasing customer satisfaction while enforcing consumer rights."

The NATCP and government agencies will continue to carry out checks and do their utmost to ensure consumer safety. Proper information for consumers and compliance with food safety and hygiene standards are essential for a carefree summer.
