The National Authority for Trade and Consumer Protection (NATCP) is inspecting an extremely wide range of toys in order to remove unsafe products from the market and uncover illegal sales. These inspections are warranted, as 63% of the toys inspected last year did not meet safety standards. During the inspections, sampling covers all major sales channels, ranging from shopping malls and department stores to toy wholesalers and Far East-operated stores, all the way to online retailers.

Dirt, expired and untraceable food, cobwebs – the NATCP shut down a store and recalled food products due to serious violations
The National Authority for Trade and Consumer Protection (NATCP) uncovered serious food safety and hygiene violations during inspections of three different retail establishments. The violations uncovered clearly demonstrate that disregarding the rules not only has legal consequences but can also pose a direct threat to consumer health. The authority therefore took immediate action in every case, emphasizing that it applies a zero-tolerance policy toward practices that violate food safety.

Increased regulatory supervision for the safety of playgrounds
The National Authority for Trade and Consumer Protection (NATCP) and the government agencies under its professional supervision will continue to closely monitor the safety of playgrounds and playground equipment this year. Last year, the authority’s staff found violations at every third playground and piece of playground equipment, and imposed nearly 19 million forints in fines for various violations.

The safety of recreational facilities and equipment is in the crosshairs of the authorities
To protect consumer safety, the National Authority for Trade and Consumer Protection (NATCP) is launching a national inspection to examine the operating conditions of recreational equipment and sports facilities. The primary goal of the inspection is to ensure that equipment operated in water parks, adventure parks, amusement parks, festivals, children’s camps, and outdoor events, as well as equipment in outdoor fitness parks accessible to the public, complies with current safety and operational regulations.

Screening of dangerous products – Hungary in sixth place in EU ratings
In the year 2025, the EU product safety alert system registered a total of 4,671 warnings, more than ever before. In 2025, the Hungarian authorities sent alerts about 317 dangerous products to the Safety Gate system, placing Hungary in 6th place among European countries, surpassing countries such as Poland, Austria, and Romania.

The NATCP examines the heavy metal content of jewelry
The laboratory of the National Authority for Trade and Consumer Protection (NATCP) tests costume jewellery bracelets, necklaces and rings in order to filter out and withdraw from circulation products containing unsafe levels of cadmium and lead. The jewellery is sampled from shopping centres, department stores, Far Eastern shops and online stores.

The aim of the initiative is to examine products from popular online marketplaces and identify those that may pose a real risk to Hungarian families.

The NATCP is removing battery chargers that pose an electric shock risk from the market
The accredited laboratory of the National Authority for Trade and Consumer Protection (NATCP) is once again testing USB chargers, given last year's 87% rejection rate. The purpose of the inspections is to prevent unsafe products from reaching consumers, which is why the authority is withdrawing them from circulation. Samples will be taken from online stores, specialty stores, small shops operated by Far Eastern companies, and shopping centers.

Target consumer protection inspection launched to protect vulnerable consumers – focus on products promising misleading medicinal effects
The National Authority for Trade and Consumer Protection (NATCP) in cooperation with the government agencies under its professional supervision, has launched a comprehensive investigation to prevent unfair trade practices targeting vulnerable consumer groups. The inspections cover treatments disguised as healthcare services for the benefit of the elderly, in addition to the protection of children, as well as products targeting families caring for children with disabilities and special educational needs, which in many cases make false claims.

Safety net for Hungarian consumers – extensive cooperation among authorities for even more effective consumer protection
A comprehensive cooperation agreement has been concluded between the ministries and authorities that play a key role in the consumer protection system in order to further strengthen the protection of Hungarian citizens and promote fair trade practices. The joint administrative interface established at the beginning of the year enables even faster and more coordinated action to prevent unfair commercial practices against consumers, protecting not only buyers but also law-abiding businesses.

Protecting children at the centre of consumer protection – results of the ban on serving alcohol, advertising regulations and inspections of children's camps
The National Authority for Trade and Consumer Protection (NATCP), with the cooperation of government agencies under its professional supervision, continued to monitor the compliance with consumer protection rules relating to the safety of children last year. While fines totaling 362 million forints were imposed for violating the ban on serving alcoholic beverages, the consumer protection authority imposed fines totaling 20 million forints for violating advertising rules and commercial regulations. The investigations will also continue in 2026.

The NATCP has withdrawn dangerous potency enhancers from market circulation
Recent inspections carried out by the National Authority for Trade and Consumer Protection (NATCP) have again identified illegal potency-enhancing products on the market. Potency-enhancing and male health-supporting products marketed as dietary supplement contained unauthorized medicinal substances – sildenafil and tadalafil – which may only be used in medicines manufactured under controlled conditions and authorized for use on medical prescription.

In 2025, the consumer protection authority examined the distribution conditions of bagged cement, masonry mortar and plaster mortar. The checks covered 229 types of construction products and a violation was found in every third product.

Increased inspections to ensure the safety of carnival masks, costumes and wigs
As the carnival season approaches, the National Authority for Trade and Consumer Protection (NATCP), in cooperation with government agencies is launching a comprehensive market supervision inspection to check the safety of masks, costumes, wigs, and other carnival accessories made for children. Based on the results of accredited laboratory tests, dangerous products will be withdrawn from the market where justified.
