Safe catering on the Sziget – positive findings from NATCP inspections

On the basis of the positive findings of the inspections, the operation of catering establishments was, on the whole, satisfactory and safe. The festival organisers ensured a supply of drinking water throughout the entire site, and catering businesses cooperated fully with the official inspections.

The minor food safety deficiencies identified during the investigation were rectified by the businesses concerned within a short period of time. In several cases, the catering establishments themselves reported the measures they had taken and requested follow-up inspections, which clearly reflects the cooperative attitude observed during the official inspections. In a few cases, it was necessary to initiate official proceedings, primarily due to untraceable products, in respect of which the experts took the necessary measures.

In addition to official inspections, consumers also have an important role to play in ensuring they shop and eat safely at festivals. When choosing food, it is worth taking into account prices, information on allergens, as well as the general cleanliness of the catering establishment and the proper storage of food. If a consumer encounters conditions that are unsatisfactory from a hygiene or food safety perspective, they should report this to the catering establishment’s operator or, if necessary, to the relevant authority.

Cooperation between the festival organisers, the authorities and food businesses all contributed to ensuring that catering at the Sziget Festival took place under safe and appropriate conditions. The NATCP will continue to strive to contribute to consumer safety and to maintaining high standards in catering by carrying out inspections at events that attract large crowds.
